Verre Églomisé, Marybeth Ting

In 2005, Marybeth Ting moved to Toronto, where she discovered her passion for verre églomisé, an ancient art form that uses genuine gold and precious metals to create radiant works. Marybeth combines nature-inspired motifs with geometric patterns through traditional techniques like gilding, etching, and reverse painting. This technique echoed the intricate gilded designs that had captivated her as a child in the Philippines, where Spanish colonial churches sparked her artistic journey.

With a background in interior design, Marybeth mastered verre églomisé, adding modern touches like patinated surfaces and mother-of-pearl inlays. Her talent led to a landmark commission to design the Shrine of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus in Manila, establishing her as an artist who blends heritage with contemporary sophistication.

Beyond her studio, Marybeth shares her expertise as an instructor with The Society of Gilders and as a member of the American Society of Interior Designers and the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario.

Today, her verre églomisé pieces grace luxury spaces worldwide, each work embodying her dedication to heritage, artistry, and an enduring pursuit of beauty.

My work is a tribute to past artisans whose skill and craftsmanship can’t be matched by modern technology. By reimagining their methods, I aim to create a legacy that blends history with innovation.
